Unable to install Winehq-stable [Solved]
Hullo, sorry if this is the wrong place to put this, just I am kinda having a trouble I hope somebody can help me with.
So, I am trying to install the latest stable release of wine, which is 2.0. I followed the instructions to go it and ran the update command.
Withal, for some reason, information technology cannot notice the winehq-stable bundle. I have redid the instructions about 5 times, but it is no use.
I can install the vino that comes from the repositories, but it is just i.6.two. It won't observe any of the stable, devel, or staging packages despite running the proper commands.
This is on a brand new installation of Linux Mint eighteen.1 (x64). Please help.
This is the "apt-get update" control output:
Code: Select all
Get:1 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-security InRelease [102 kB] Ign:two http://packages.linuxmint.com serena InRelease Hit:3 http://packages.linuxmint.com serena Release Hitting:4 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial InRelease Hitting:vi http://ppa.launchpad.net/embrosyn/cinnamon/ubuntu xenial InRelease Hit:7 http://annal.canonical.com/ubuntu xenial InRelease Get:8 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-updates InRelease [102 kB] Hit:9 http://ppa.launchpad.net/snwh/pulp/ubuntu xenial InRelease Hit:10 https://repo.skype.com/deb stable InRelease Striking:11 http://ppa.launchpad.net/tista/adapta/ubuntu xenial InRelease Get:12 http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-vino/ppa/ubuntu xenial InRelease [17.five kB] Get:13 http://annal.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-backports InRelease [102 kB] Get:14 http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-vino/ppa/ubuntu xenial/main Sources [1,504 B] Get:15 http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-vino/ppa/ubuntu xenial/master amd64 Packages [1,860 B] Go:16 http://ppa.launchpad.internet/ubuntu-wine/ppa/ubuntu xenial/main i386 Packages [1,848 B] Get:17 http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-vino/ppa/ubuntu xenial/primary Translation-en [828 B] Fetched 330 kB in 1s (198 kB/southward) Reading packet lists... And this is the output I get when I try to install winehq-stable:
Lawmaking: Select all

Whatsoever information needed, I will give.

Re: Unable to install Winehq-stable
Unable to locate package winehq-stable
Wrong package name. Try just 'vino' or 'wine1.6' or 'wine1.8'.
Edit:
They say to install 'winehq-stable' here
https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu
only it's after adding that repo; information technology's not a 'normal' name for wine.
Delight edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!

but it'due south after adding that repo; it's non a 'normal' name for wine.
In the directions it listing, it says to add the i386 compages, and I did so past doing the following:
So information technology tells me to add the repository, which I did doing again, what it said:
Code: Select all
wget https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/Release.key sudo apt-key add together Release.key sudo apt-add-repository https://dl.winehq.org/vino-builds/ubuntu/
Then I update, using
And then it tells me for the stable co-operative to run this command:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install --install-recommends winehq-stable
which it fails to notice.
I know there is already a wine program that is in the default repositories, simply I want the latest stable branch, which is currently ii.0.
I do not want 1.half dozen, or one.8. I desire two.0, the latest stable branch.
I realize that I might come up off as rude on this mail service, pitiful for that. I don't mean to be rude or anything, I just would like to set this result.

Re: Unable to install Winehq-stable
I have heard that PlayOnLinux volition allow you to install several dissimilar Vino versions, including two.0. I know nothing more about it than that.

Thanks, only I really desire wine 2.0 to be the default and principal vino awarding. I desire to double click and exe file and it open upwardly to wine 2.0 without having to go through playonlinux.
I know that this worked fine on Ubuntu sixteen.04 because that is the OS I used before Mint. It installed without any problems. Even so, Mint seems to exist a different story.

Re: Unable to install Winehq-stable
If yous accept previously installed a Wine package from some other repository, please remove information technology and any packages that depend on it (east.g., wine-mono, wine-gecko, winetricks) before attempting to install the WineHQ packages, as they may crusade dependency conflicts.

Re: Unable to install Winehq-stable
Hi, vencorr.
Later on having added the Wine HQ PPA and afterward having run the command sudo apt-get update
I would apply Synaptic package manager in club to discover out what the exact name of the WineHQ Stable ii.0 package really is.
Actually I would also mark information technology in Synaptic for installation and use.

I use this ppa to get wine2.0 (Mint 18.ane):
deb http://ppa.launchpad.cyberspace/ricotz/unstable/ubuntu xenial main
(Yes, information technology says unstable but i've had no issues with it, and information technology hasn't been updating since initial install.
Parcel is called "wine2.0").

The but thing that shows up is the wine package from the official repositories, and q4wine. The wine in the repositories is 1.6.2.

Hullo, Vencorr.
I wonder a bit whether some step(south) have gone incorrect in the process of adding the Wine HQ PPA and updating the list of available software. [1]
Could you perhaps post the full screen output of this last commandline:
Information technology should list whatsoever software packet, installed or non, the name of which starts with "wine" and which is known to your local software management system.
Thanks,
Karl

Re: Unable to install Winehq-stable
In Update Manager/Software Sources adding the official Vino PPA gives the following message: 'Cannot add together PPA: ''This PPA does not support xenial''. Is this Update Managing director/Sofware Sources app doing something wrong or is this an fault on vino's PPA part? Never had such bug with installing vino before from their official repositories.

Hello, Vencorr.
Searching in your "apt-cache policy wine*" screen output for either of the following strings, wine2, wine-two, winehq-stable, returns empty.
This seems to propose that something must accept gone wrong when adding the WineHQ PPA. [1]
Could y'all possibly post the screen output of the last command

Re: Unable to install Winehq-stable
Hello, Vencorr.
Looking for the cord https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/
in your inxi -Sr
output returns empty.
This means that the WineHQ PPA has not been added to the list of repositories on your Mint 18.1.
This also means that one or more of the commands to add the repo must have failed.
As you posted the commands were
Code: Select all
wget https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/Release.key sudo apt-primal add Release.key sudo apt-add-repository https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/
The crucial control which should have created a new sources list file and added the repo address in the new file is the last command.
Could you lot exist bothered to run the commandline again and post the commandline including any screen output which it generates, delight.

Running the command sudo apt-add-repository https://dl.winehq.org/vino-builds/ubuntu/
does not produce whatsoever output. Running the inxi -Sr
later adding the repository (or not calculation information technology) doesn't brand a departure in output.
Here is the entire output of the progress:

I don't have any clue what is going on. All I know now is that it is not adding the repository.
Is there whatever logs we can check on this?

Re: Unable to install Winehq-stable
I stock-still it! I had to manually add the repository to the "Boosted Repositories" in Software sources.
I added a new line and put this in
Code: Select all
deb https://dl.winehq.org/vino-builds/ubuntu xenial main
Then, but refresh the enshroud and install winehq-stable.
Give thanks you me that messes around with stuff.
